Market

and growth prospects
Between 2020 and 2025, the Belgian economy experienced some instability in terms of growth. In 2020, there was a significant recession, as a direct consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely disrupted economic activity on a global scale. In 2021, however, the country saw a strong recovery, with real GDP growing by 6.2%, driven by the easing of restrictions, government incentives, and the return of consumer and business confidence.
In 2022, growth was more moderate, signalling that the pace of recovery was slowing. This trend continued in the following years: in 2023, growth stood at just 1.3%, falling to 1.0% in 2024, with 0.8% estimated for 2025. In these last two years, the country’s GDP reached a total of US$664.97 billion in 2024 (€569.96 billion)¹ and US$684.86 billion in 2025 (€587.01 billion)². Even so, this reflects a V-shaped recovery trajectory that gradually fades over time, hindered by several factors, including persistent inflation, rising interest rates, geopolitical tensions and budgetary challenges.
